Albert Gottschalk (* 3. July 1866 in Stege; â 13. February 1906 in Frederiksberg) was a Danish painter.
He was born in Stege, but later lived in Copenhagen. Gottschalk had a close personal and artistic relationship with the poets Johannes Jørgensen, Viggo Stuckenberg and Sophus Claussen.
He found inspiration for his works in French art and the Danish painter P.S. Krøyer, who was also his teacher for some time.
The ambitious Gottschalk had great technical abilities and worked with his motifs in his mind for a long time before he painted them. He searched for the motifs in Denmark and found them mostly near Copenhagen. His paintings often looked like quickly executed sketches, which was not recognized at that time. Only following generations appreciated his artistic abilities.
