Biography

Arnold (Arnoldus) Boonen (also Boontje; * 16. December 1669 in Dordrecht; † 2. October 1729 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch painter and portraitist with special ability for detailed group depictions of well-known persons and for genre painting.Famous painters were with him in the apprenticeship like Cornelis Troost (1696-1750), Philip van Dijk, Jan Maurits Quinkhard, Cornelis Pronk, Arnout Rentinck and others like his younger brother Jasper Boonen. His works can be found in the collections of major museums such as the Rijksmuseum, the Dordrechtsmuseum and the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem.
