Biography

Hans von Aachen (* 1552 in Cologne; † March 4, 1615 in Prague), also known as Johann von Aachen (after his father's birthplace) or Jan van Achen, Aken or Janachen, was a German painter from the Rhineland with the international career of a successful travelling artist and court painter.

Hans von Aachen lived and worked in Italy, Bavaria and Prague. In addition to numerous portraits, his works include allegorical, mythological and religious paintings as well as a large number of copper engravings and drawings.
