Laurent-Benoît Dewez (* 14 April 1731 in Petit-Rechain; † 1 November 1812 in Groot-Bijgaarden) is considered the most important 18th century architect in the territory of the Austrian Netherlands (today Belgium). Dewez introduced an Italian and English influenced classical architectural style to the region. Numerous castles, abbeys and churches were built according to his plans, but many of them were damaged or destroyed during the French Revolution.
